SmartGreen Aquaculture | India’s First Inland Trout Farming Facility

SmartGreen Aquaculture is proud to pioneer a new chapter in India’s aquaculture journey by establishing the country’s first inland, premium trout farming and research facility in Hyderabad, Telangana. Built on advanced Recirculating Aquaculture System (RAS) technology, our facility enables year-round cultivation of cold-water species like rainbow trout in a fully controlled, biosecure environment. This breakthrough makes it possible to farm trout sustainably in regions where it was once considered impossible. Located in Kandukur Mandal on the outskirts of Hyderabad, the SmartGreen campus integrates hatchery operations, indoor grow-out systems, processing, cold-chain infrastructure, and direct-to-consumer delivery under one ecosystem. Our current setup includes a dedicated hatchery spread across two acres and a scalable production system designed for long-term growth.

With an annual production capacity of 1,200 metric tonnes, SmartGreen is not only focused on delivering premium-quality trout to Indian consumers but also on generating meaningful employment opportunities and building export-ready aquaculture capabilities. Beyond fish farming, SmartGreen is developing a microalgae biorefinery and a skill development centre for RAS technologies, reinforcing our commitment to research, innovation, and knowledge sharing in sustainable aquaculture. Our approach combines precision engineering, sustainability, and technology-driven farming to reduce dependency on imports, shorten supply chains, and ensure traceability from hatchery to plate.
